The Indian military attaché accredited in Kazakhstan, Pankaj Kumar, paid an official visit to the KRE plant. The guest was welcomed by the technical director of the enterprise, Mukhtar Almuqanov, who provided a detailed introduction to the full production cycle. He also presented the promising projects of the Barys Dynamics group of companies, which includes the KRE plant itself.
The parties discussed the current state and potential of the defense industry, which served as the basis for a broader discussion on opportunities for bilateral cooperation. In this context, special attention was given to India’s experience in the military industry.
India is one of the countries systematically developing its defense industry. By mastering advanced foreign technologies, the country has significantly strengthened the potential of its armed forces. A vivid example of such progress is the Kalyani Group — one of India’s leading industrial conglomerates actively developing the defense-industrial complex. Its subsidiary, Kalyani Strategic Systems Ltd (KSSL), is engaged in the design and production of artillery systems, armored vehicles, ammunition, air defense systems, and other defense solutions.
The company’s products attracted the guests’ attention in the context of discussing localization and potential cooperation. One of KSSL’s well-known products is the Kalyani M4 armored vehicle, which successfully passed tests in the Ladakh region and was adopted by the Indian army. Currently, engineers at the KPE plant are initiating the production of a domestic equivalent — the Barys 4×4.. The development takes into account modern requirements for mobility, protection, and versatility.
The military attaché’s visit became another step toward strengthening mutual understanding and cooperation between Kazakhstan and India in the field of defense industry. Both sides expressed mutual interest in further developing partnership relations, exchanging experience, and implementing joint innovative projects.
